Winter is coming, and it’s the perfect time to start preparing your garage door for the cold weather ahead.

Today is the first official day of fall, and while we are keen to celebrate with a hay ride and a pumpkin spice latte, it’s also important to note that winter will be here before we know it. The cold and blustery weather can be hard on your garage door, but a little preparation can go a long way in protecting it throughout winter. At Garage Door Services, we offer garage door installation, repair and more in Loveland, and we are here to help you keep your garage door in good shape. Here are a couple of tips for preparing your garage door for winter:

#1.  Change out the batteries in your opener and keypad.

The last thing that you want is to be stuck out in the cold because of a dead battery. Most batteries in keypads and garage door openers will last about a year, and the fall is the perfect time to change them out so that they have lots of juice during the winter.

#2. Inspect and replace weatherstripping.

The weatherstripping can help to keep the cold air where it belongs, out of your garage, but over time, it can become worn or damaged by heat exposure. Inspect the weatherstripping for any signs of damage, and if necessary, replace it.

These are just a couple of the steps you should take to prepare your garage door for the upcoming winter. Would you like to learn more? If so, please stay tuned for our next blog.
